At RK Legal, we understand that every individual’s journey is unique, and so is their legacy. Our Estate Planning Services are designed to provide you with peace of mind, ensuring that your assets and loved ones are protected with precision and care.
How To Get Started
Giving Your Family The Protection They Deserve
By now you have seen that we are different than your typical lawyer and because you love your family and want to keep them out of court and out of conflict when something happens to you, you are ready to take the first steps to get a plan in place.
You know your family deserves the kind of protection, guidance and love we provide for a lifetime.
Now, as you get started, it is important that you know how we work because we do things a bit differently here than at other law firms. That is why our clients love us so much.
Your Appointment Options
You have three options for your next step:
You can schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to learn more about us and get a few preliminary questions answer.
You can schedule your Family Wealth Planning Session and complete the pre-session homework so that you come in prepared to be educated, informed and make empowered decisions for the people you love.
You can schedule your Estate Plan Checkup and Review if you have an existing plan so that you can get educated on whether your existing plan still works for your family or if you have gaps that you must fill to have the peace of mind your family is covered.
How Long Is The Family Wealth Planning Session?
In advance of your meeting, we will send you a package of information to review and complete before our time together, which will help you begin the process of getting your legal and financial life in order.
We block two hours on our calendar for your Family Wealth Planning Session and we can focus entirely on you and your family during this time.
During your Planning Session, we will guide you to gently look at what would happen to your loved ones and with your assets if something were to happen to you today. And then we will look at what you want to happen instead and we will help you create a roadmap to get that plan in place as easily as possible.
After meeting with us, our clients routinely say “Wow, if we had known how easy this would be, we would have done it years ago!”
How Much Does The Family Wealth Planning Session Cost?
Our Family Wealth Planning Session is valued at $750, or if you have existing estate planning documents that you are wanting us to review and potentially incorporate, this meeting is valued at $950.
If during your Planning Session you choose to move forward and we help you design a comprehensive plan, your session fee is applied to the legal fee to create or update your estate plan. In some circumstances we will waive the planning session fee and instead you can secure your appointment time with a credit card number to hold your appointment time to the exclusion of others.
So long as you keep your appointment time as scheduled, nothing will be charged to your card. If you must cancel less than seven days prior your appointment, we ask that you do so at least one week ahead of time so that we may open our calendars to other waiting families.
We understand that this policy of securing your appointment with a credit card may seem unique. So is our law firm.
We provide our very best service to those families who are looking for a long-term relationship with their trusted advisor. We expend most of our energy providing an exceedingly high degree of service to our existing clients and we limit the number of new clients we see each week.
What To Do Prior To Your Family Wealth Planning Session
After scheduling your appointment, you will receive your Family Wealth Inventory & Assessment and other important information that you will want to review and complete prior to your personal Family Wealth Planning Session.
Your Family Wealth Inventory & Assessment is your pre-session “homework.”
We ask that you complete and return your homework to our office at least three days prior to your Planning Session so that we have time to review your information and provide the most valuable counsel we can during your Planning Session.
Feel free to call the office at any time if you need assistance completing your homework or if have any questions at all.
What To Expect The Day Of Your Family Wealth Planning Session
On the day of your meeting, please expect to spend up to two hours with us.
We have two goals at our meeting together:
- Identify whether there is a good fit between you and us.
- Educate you about what would happen today if something happened to you so that you know how you can design a different plan if desired.
By looking at what would happen under your current plan, you can identify what you would want to happen differently. Then together with our guidance you can make the decisions necessary (including choosing your own fee) to give you the peace of mind of knowing your family would stay out of court and out of conflict when something happens to you.
Assuming there is a good fit between our firm and your family AND that you identify specific ways you would want things to happen that are different than what would currently happen if something happened to you, we can design a plan for your family right away.
What Happens Next?
Once we have completed the design of your plan, we will review your assets for the purpose of ensuring that everything you own will be titled for maximum protection.
We will then schedule your Signing Ceremony for about a month later where you can sign your complete estate plan.
At your Signing Ceremony we have a process of reviewing your documents with you that makes your plan so easy to understand that you will know for certain that we understood exactly the way you want things to happen when something happens to you and that your loved ones will be in excellent hands with our firm.
Once you sign your your estate plan, your assets and your family are protected.
And we see this as only the beginning of our relationship. You may make changes to your planning documents at no charge for up to 90 days after you sign your plan.
Then at the final meeting during the planning phase of our relationship, we verify that all of your asset transfers are moving forward on track, whether we are taking the lead or you are taking the lead with our guidance.
We review your asset spreadsheet with you and ensure all of your questions are answered.
What Happens After I Take My Estate Planning Binder Home?
After you take your estate planning binder home with you, the maintenance phase of your plan will begin.
At no additional charge we will review your plan at least every three years and keep you informed about changes in the law and other issues that affect your family and your wealth.
If you participate in our Family Wealth VIP Membership Program, you will have an opportunity to review your plan every single year and enjoy a host of other amazing benefits like online access to your scanned estate planning documents, discounted or complimentary updates to your estate plan, and so much more.
Finally, we are always here for you and we do not charge you for phone calls or emails.
You’ll be amazed at how easy and painless the entire planning process will be for your family and we would love to meet with you for your Family Wealth Planning Session soon.

Three Levels Of Planning
Estate planning at RK Legal, LLC is not “one size fits all” or “cookie cutter.”
We offer three levels of planning to suit your varying needs, and you get to choose the level of planning that best fits your family.
From starter plans designed primarily for families with young children and not yet much in the way of financial wealth, to more robust plans for well-established families concerned with matters of asset protection, preservation and increased growth, we have you covered.
Personalized Service And Fees
We have priced our planning for you at the intersection of affordability and effectiveness.
Depending on what you need, our fees range from around $2,000 for those not worried about keeping family out of court, up to $8,000 for an extensive plan that provides significant asset protection after death and maximum protection for your assets from inadvertent loss to the state department of unclaimed property or the court process.
If you are looking for the cheapest planning you can find, you may as well read up and do it yourself because you will get the same quality of planning online as you will with any lawyer who is charging fees less than what we offer here.
When we meet for your Family Wealth Planning Session, we will review our three planning levels with you, and you will choose your own fee based on your budget and the planning options that are most important to you and your family.

Your Family’s Lawyer For Life
Our Family Wealth VIP Membership Programs are part of what set us apart and allow us to ensure your plan works to keep your family out of court and out of conflict and to care for you and your family throughout all of life’s stages.
At most estate planning law firms the relationship ends when you sign your documents. Not so with us. At RK Legal, LLC we see the signing of your estate planning documents as just the beginning of our relationship with your family.
And that’s how it should be because your life will change, your assets will change and the law will change. Your plan needs to change along the way as well.
Make Sure Your Plan Changes With Your Life, Your Assets and the Law
Over time, your assets will change, your family will change, the law will change and your life will change.
Your plan must accommodate all of these changes in order to make sure your plan works when your family needs it the most.
If your plan is not properly updated over time, your documents become worthless – worth no more than the paper they were printed on. And the costs of failing to update are typically far greater than keeping your plan current.
In addition, we ensure your assets are owned in the right way throughout your lifetime. There are currently billions of dollars sitting in state departments of unclaimed property throughout the U.S. and we never want to see a penny of your assets there. Nor do we want to see your family to be stuck dealing with the court system when you’ve worked so diligently to make things as easy as possible for them.
That’s why we prepare your Family Wealth Inventory of your assets and keep it up to date year after year so your loved ones can always locate what you own and how you own it if and when necessary.
Three-Year Plan Review Is Included With Every Plan
With each of our estate plans we include a no-charge three-year review to ensure that as your life changes, so does your estate plan and to confirm your assets are held properly for maximum protection.
Additional Benefits Provided Under Our Membership Plans
Our Family Wealth VIP Membership Programs are designed with maximum protection and service in mind:
- Annual plan review with unlimited plan amendments
- Annual review of your assets and update to your asset spreadsheet
- Annual Family Wealth Legacy Interviews to transition your most important and most frequently lost family wealth – who you are and what’s most important to you

More Than Just Your Money
How We Guide You to Leave a Legacy That’s About Much More Than Just Your Money
After you are gone, your loved ones will miss you deeply. They will long for your words of counsel and concern. Hearing your voice again would be a tremendous gift.
Through our unique legacy process, you can give your loved ones the most precious gift – a lasting expression of your love.
What could be more valuable?
We believe estate planning is not just about transferring your financial assets and personal belongings. It’s equally about capturing and transferring your valuable intangible gifts: who you are and what’s important to you – your values, insights, stories and experiences.
Let Me Tell You A Story
Several years ago, the dad of one of my colleagues died. He had left her a voicemail message on her cell phone and for years after he died, she would listen to it when she missed him. Until the very bad day when the voicemail was accidentally deleted.
How she wishes she still had that voicemail message.
Or even better, that she had a recording of her dad telling her what he loved about her, what his hopes for her were, what life lessons were most important to him, what values he most wanted for her, or even just saying her nickname that he had always called her.
You Could Make A Recording, But Who Has Time?
When I was first in practice, I would tell my clients to record a message for their loved ones and put it in a safe place or simply write notes to their children letting them know how they felt about them.
But so few people ever actually did it.
We just get so caught up with the day to day of our lives that focusing in on leaving a legacy seems to take a back seat.
We Help You Capture These Precious Moments
We realized we would have to build this into our planning process and not make it just another thing you’ll get done someday.
That’s why at RK Legal we make it part of our planning for every client to help you capture and pass on more than just your money: your intellectual, spiritual and human assets.
We help you capture who you are and what’s important to you.
What Would It Be Worth?
Can you picture someone who has passed away, someone you love and miss deeply? Can you recall a conversation you had with them? Can you remember the sound of their voice and what they told you? What if you could hear their voice again? What if they could speak to you – heart to heart – and share their wisdom and advice?
What would it be worth to you to hear their words one more time?
What is it worth to you to know that they’ll always know exactly how much you love them? It’s worth a lot to us and we are honored to be able to provide you and your family with this gift.
For more information about how we help you pass on your most valuable assets – your values, insights, stories and experiences – to your loved ones, or about our resources for leaving your family with a true legacy, please contact us.
Or schedule your Family Wealth Planning Session online and we’ll discuss together exactly how we build this into our planning process designed exactly for people like you who want to leave a real legacy.

How Much Does Estate Planning Cost?
Why Cost Matters
As you can imagine, we get the question “How much does an estate plan cost?” quite frequently.
This is a good question that I want to answer for you as clearly as I can, given that there is not a “one-size-fits-all solution” for every family.
If a lawyer can tell you exactly what your plan would cost via email or over the phone without a comprehensive discovery process, I would run quickly away from that lawyer.
Because you see, this is exactly why most estate plans fail.
Families shop around based on price (because they don’t know any other way to shop for an estate plan) and they end up with a traditional plan, which is a set of documents that do not actually work when the family needs them.
Here Is What I Can Assure You
We have designed and priced our estate planning options for you and your family at the intersection of affordability and effectiveness.
We start the planning process with your personal Family Wealth Planning Session, which is designed to get you more financially organized than you have ever been before.
Even if you never do any planning with us, the preparation for your Family Wealth Planning Session alone is a hugely valuable process for you and your family because you will create a full inventory of your assets and ensure your family knows exactly what you have and where it is located.
Then when we meet in person we will review everything you own and discuss everyone you love, and you will understand exactly what would happen to everything you own and everyone you love in the event of your death or incapacity.
If you do not have a plan, we will cover the plan the state has for you.
If you do have an existing plan, we will review your current plan with you. (We call this an Estate Plan Checkup and Review).
If you are not happy with the plan the state has for you, or your existing plan, you will tell us what you would want to change and we will look at the most effective, efficient and affordable way to achieve your goals. Plus, we will help ensure that no matter what happens, none of your hard-earned assets will be lost to the state department of unclaimed property when something happens to you.
Here is the most important part for you to know about this: you will be making informed, educated, empowered decisions for the people you love, not just shopping around based on price.
You Choose Your Planning Level
With all of that background in mind: Your Family Wealth Planning Session is a value of $750, or if you have an existing estate plan that you want your attorney to review as part of this process, then your Estate Plan Checkup and Review is a value of $950.
The great part is if you would like to do preparation ahead of time to make your appointment as valuable a use of your time as possible, then you can schedule online below, follow the instructions as to how to prepare for your appointment, secure your appointment time with a credit card (nothing is charged on your card so long as you keep your appointment and complete the preparation in advance), and then your appointment fee is waived.
The awesome thing about the preparation is that you will be more organized than you have ever been before because you will create a full inventory of your assets and ensure your family knows exactly what you have and where it is located.
We offer a complete zeroing out of the planning session fee in that case because your commitment to the preparation before the meeting saves me time, which saves you money.
If after reading this you are ready to make informed, empowered, educated decisions for the people you love (instead of just shopping around for the cheapest plan, which is unlikely to work when your family needs it), schedule your Family Wealth Planning Session today.
